My Artistic Vision
I want my designs to be unique, touchable, beautiful to see and comfortable to wear. I want designs that endure the current fashion colors and styles so that it will not end up under a pile of newer things by the end of the year. Finally, I want each piece to have an owner out there unknown when I make it but who will ultimately find it and love it.

What’s Up At The Studio

Wish I had photos of my experiments in copper clay but my first firing was disappointing.  I either did not quite get the firing schedule or I mis-applied it.  Either way no joy.  First I broke the piece which was one of my funny stylized heart shapes in outline form. Without thinking as I held it while preparing to place it for firing I squeezed a bit and it fell into three pieces.  Since it was just a piece for test firing I simply used one piece to fire….failure….then after checking the manual, adjusting….a second piece.  More failure.  It was late.  Since then I read an article about firing this type of copper clay and will try again this week with a more substantial piece.

Meanwhile, we drove to Eureka Springs last weekend where we ambled through several galleries to be inspired and informed by what they carried.  Success.  We both need gallery alternatives since the shop in Norfork is probably a good place to sell my bracelets it is less likely to be the right place for my emerging focus.  Since I don’t enjoy doing production pieces I need places that sell at price points that fit my concepts.  We will see if my creative ideas and my business ideas fall into the same box.

I am thankful that I was invited to enjoy playtime in Marian’s clay studio and that she took some time from her vases and other creations to allow me to do a bit of small-scale creating with her clay and even some glazing which I quite like. She has a few of her “mistakes” that I also like and she allowed me to glaze one for myself.  Her mistakes are frequently quite beautiful and proves synchronicity for me.

Anyway, later this week I plan some photos of the earrings I am making for Katha and her friend for their prom.  I will also share the copper that I fire.  Thanks to those of you who have become fans of Fiery Heart Designs. I intend to earn your trust with showing you my new things.
